Kevin Crume, who is in his 12th season as a member of the NWU coaching staff, begins his fourth year as the defensive coordinator for the Prairie Wolves football team in 2014.

Crume, a former linebacker at NWU from 1999-2001, has been a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan coaching staff for 11 seasons. He has previously served as the linebackers coach and was the NWU special teams coordinator.

Last season, Crume’s defense ranked fourth in the nation in scoring defense, fifth in pass defense efficiency and 15th in total defense.Â

In 2012, Crume’s defense set the school record for rushing defense allowing just 66.0 yards per game, leading the entire NAIA in rush defense. NWU was eighth in total defense and 12th in scoring defense in 2012.

During his 11 seasons at Nebraska Wesleyan, Crume coached an All-American linebacker, two All-American return specialists and 26 All-Conference linebackers. He has been a part of the defensive staff that helped NWU rank in the top ten in the NAIA in scoring defense five of the past seven seasons. In 2008, he coached the NWU kick return unit to lead the entire country in return yards.

Crume, who attended Bellevue East High School, earned three letters and was the third leading tackler for the Prairie Wolves as a senior in 2001. He graduated from NWU with a degree in Health & Physical Education in 2002. He earned his Master of Arts in management from Doane College in 2008.

He also serves as the recruiting coordinator for the NWU athletic department and administrative assistant for NWU’s cross country and track programs.

Crume and his wife Amanda live in Lincoln with their son Brett and infant daughter Ava.
