Heath Staples begins his second season as an assistant football coach at Nebraska Wesleyan. Staples will coach the Prairie Wolves defensive secondary.
Staples was the defensive backs and wide receivers coach at Columbus Lakeview High School from 2007-11. He also worked with Coach Thurin as the defensive back coach for the Omaha Beef in 2014.
From 2001-04, Staples was the secondary coach at Doane College. Staples played collegiate football at Doane from 1994-97 and was a three-year starter at cornerback. He was a two-time honorable mention All-Conference selection in the secondary.
The Ogallala, Neb., native played five seasons of indoor/arena football for the Lincoln Lightning and Lincoln Capitals.
Staples currently lives in Omaha, Neb., and works as a quality assurance manager for Teledyne Cetac Technologies.
