Emergency Action Plans

Abel Stadium
5410 Huntington Ave Lincoln, NE 58404

 

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be present for football, soccer or outdoor track practice, and soccer games. For an outdoor track meet, at least one (1) AT will be present. For a football game the following personnel are required to be in attendance: one (1) physician and at least one (1) AT. If for some reason an AT is not present at soccer or track practice, a coach certified in First Aid/CPR would assume responsibility.  Under no circumstances should an AT be absent from a full contact football practice. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, physicians, and the EMS crew will be via cellular telephones and/or two-way radios.  The nearest land line is located in the press box along with the phones located in the ATs' offices in the athletic training room. 
Equipment: The supervising AT is to have a medical kit with the basic supplies for first aid care, supplies for splinting, and taping supplies for soccer and outdoor track practice.  In addition to these supplies, soccer games, outdoor track meets, and football practices and games will also require a spine board, neck immobilizers, air splints, and crutches.  If for some reason an athletic training staff is not present, the head coach will be responsible for medical kits and basic supplies for first aid. An AED is located in the concession stand and all ATs and head coaches have keys to access the AED.
Inclement Weather: In the case of inclement weather (i.e. Thunderstorms/ Lightning, Hail, Hurricane, Tornado) a member of the Athletic Training Staff will monitor threatening weather and will make the decision to remove a team or individuals from an athletic site or event. The officials, administration and athletic trainer will discuss and decide on the continuation or termination of such event. In the event that the competition is postponed, all spectators, officials, athletes, and support staff will evacuate the facility and seek shelter in the Marion and Marian Weary center until the game or event resumes.
Lightning Policy: the athletic trainer will monitor lightning activity, follow, and adhere to the 'Lightning Safety for Athletics and Recreations' position statement from the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
Tornado: In the case of a tornado, seek shelter in the lower level locker rooms of the Marion and Marian Weary center.

Actions and Responsibilities

1. Responsibility for the immediate care of the athlete is as follows: 1) AT; 2) coach; 3) athletic training student when supervised by an AT.

2.              The coach and/or athletic training student is responsible for the retrieval of the equipment the first responder deems necessary.

3.              If the emergency medical system is needed:

A.             A coach or athletic training student will dial 911

B.              The following information is to be given to the operator:

1.              Name of the caller

2.              Number and name of injured athlete(s)

3.              Condition of athlete(s)

4.              Type of first-aid being conducted and by whom

5.              Specific directions to Abel Stadium

Going south on 56th street turn west into the Reserved Parking located North of the stadium, continue west to the end of the parking to the north gate (this gate is locked and the coach and certified athletic trainer have keys)

4.               Assign an assistant coach or athletic training student to meet EMS crew as they arrive and have them direct the EMS crew to the scene.

5.              Have an assistant coach or an athletic training student accompany the athlete to the medical center with the proper insurance papers

6.              The AT or head coach will notify the parents of the injured athlete and the location to which the athlete is being taken.

7.              Notify the head AT and complete the necessary paperwork.


 

Athletic Training Room

Personnel: In the event of an emergency, a certified athletic trainer (AT) should take control of the situation.  Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, physicians, and the EMS crew will be via cellular telephones, two-way radios, and/or a landline located in the AT's offices within the athletic training room.
Equipment: The athletic training room contains all equipment necessary in the case of an emergency including but not limited to basic supplies for first aid care, supplies for splinting and taping, a spine board, neck immobilizers, air splints, and crutches.  An AED is located in the hallway just outside the Athletic Training Room door.
Inclement Weather: In the case of inclement weather (i.e. Thunderstorms/ Lightning, Hail, Hurricane, Tornado) a member of the Athletic Training Staff will monitor threatening weather and make the decision to remove a team or individuals from an athletic site or event.
Tornado: In the case of a tornado, seek shelter in the lower level locker rooms of the Marion and Marian Weary center.

4.               Assign an AT or athletic training student to meet the EMS crew as they arrive and have them direct the EMS crew to the scene.

5.              Have an AT an athletic training student accompany the athlete to the medical center with the proper insurance papers

6.              The AT or head coach will notify the parents of the injured athlete and the location to which the athlete is being taken.

7.              Notify the head AT and complete the necessary paperwork.

Harold Chaffee Practice Field

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) should be present for soccer, outdoor track, or football practice.  When a team is practicing on both Abel and Chaffee field one AT may divide his/her time between both fields.  If for some reason an AT is not present at soccer or track practice, a coach certified in First Aid/CPR would assume responsibility.  Under no circumstances should an AT be absent from a full contact football practice. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.

6.     The AT or head coach will notify the parents of the injured athlete and the location to which the athlete is being taken.

7.     Notify the head AT and complete the necessary paperwork.

Knight Fieldhouse

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be present for practice and official meets.  If for some reason an AT is not present, a coach certified in First Aid/CPR will assume responsibility.  The athletic training staff is to have direct access to the athletic training room and its facilities. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, and the EMS Crew will be via cellular telephones or two-way radios.  The nearest location of the land line is on the West wall of the fieldhouse, cardio room.  There is also a land line located in the foyer of the Tower Entrance at the WC front desk.
Equipment: The supervising AT is to have a medical kit with the basic supplies for first aid care and tape.  For meets, the athletic training staff will make sure that crutches, air splints, and a spine board are present.  If for some reason an AT is not present, the head coach is responsible for the medical kit and basic supplies for first aid.  During WC hours the front desk has first aid supplies and access to ice.  An AED is located in the foyer of the Tower Entrance near the WC front desk.

7.     Notify the head AT and complete the necessary paperwork.

Pioneers Park

3201 S Coddington Ave, Lincoln, NE 68522

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be present for a cross country meet. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, and the EMS Crew will be via cellular telephones or two-way radios.  The supervising AT, or coach if no AT is present, will have a cellular telephone during practice or competition.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Equipment: The supervising AT is to have a medical kit with the basic supplies for first aid care, supplies for splinting, taping supplies, air splints, and crutches.  If for some reason an AT is not present, the head coach will be responsible for the medical kits and basic supplies for first aid. That AT covering an event will bring have an AED at the AT area.
Inclement Weather: In the case of inclement weather (i.e. Thunderstorms/ Lightning, Hail, Hurricane, Tornado) a member of the Athletic Training Staff will monitor threatening weather and make the decision to remove a team or individuals from an athletic site or event. Snyder Arena

University Place Park

5.     Have an assistant coach or an athletic training student accompany the athlete to the medical center with the proper insurance papers

6.     The AT or head coach will notify the parents of the injured athlete and the location to which the athlete is being taken.

7.  Notify the heat AT and complete the necessary forms.

 

Weary Center Pool

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be available during practice and must be present for official meets.  If for some reason an AT is not present, a coach certified in First Aid/CPR will assume responsibility.  The athletic training staff is to have direct access to the athletic training room and its facilities. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, and the EMS Crew will be via cellular telephones or two-way radios.  The nearest location of the land line is on the east wall of the pool deck.  There is also a land line located in Knight Fieldhouse on the west wall or in the foyer of the Tower Entrance at the WC front desk.
Equipment: The supervising AT is to have a medical kit with the basic supplies for first aid care and tape.  For meets, the athletic training staff will make sure that crutches, air splints, and a spine board are present.  If for some reason an AT is not present, the head coach is responsible for the medical kit and basic supplies for first aid.  During WC hours the front desk has first aid supplies and access to ice.  An AED is located in the foyer of the Tower Entrance near the WC front desk.

Woods Park

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be present for baseball practices and baseball games.  If for some reason an AT is not present, a coach certified in First Aid/CPR will assume responsibility.  Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event.  Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.
Communication: Communication between ATs, athletic training students, and the EMS Crew will be via cellular telephones or two-way radios.  A land line is located inside the tennis complex.
Equipment: The supervising AT is to have a medical kit with the basic supplies for first aid care, supplies for splinting, and taping supplies.  This emergency equipment will travel to and from the field with the athletic training staff and will be stationed in the home dugout at baseball and the north side of tennis courts for a home match.  If for some reason an AT is not present, the head coach will be responsible for the medical kits and basic supplies for first aid. An AED will be brought to the field by the AT for home baseball games and will be stationed in the home dugout.
Inclement Weather: In the case of inclement weather (i.e. Thunderstorms/ Lightning, Hail, Hurricane, Tornado) a member of the Athletic Training Staff will monitor threatening weather and make the decision to remove a team or individuals from an athletic site or event. Wrestling Facility

Personnel: One (1) certified athletic trainer (AT) must be present for practice and official meets. The athletic training staff is to have direct access to the athletic training room and its facilities. Athletic Training Students are often assigned to an AT working a practice or event. Athletic Training Students are only present when an AT is assigned to cover a practice or event.

If for some reason an athletic training staff is not present the head coach will be responsible for first aid care. An AED is located on the wall to the north just through the west main entrance door.
Inclement Weather:
In the case of inclement weather (i.e. Thunderstorms/ Lightning, Hail, Hurricane, Tornado) a member of the Athletic Training Staff will monitor threatening weather and make the decision to remove a team or individuals from an athletic site or event.
Tornado:
In the case of a tornado, seek shelter in the locker rooms located in the northwest corner of the building.

Actions and Responsibilities

1. Responsibility for the immediate care of the athlete is as follows: 1) AT; 2) coach; 3) athletic training student when supervised by an AT.

2. The athletic training student and/or coach are responsible for the retrieval of the equipment the first responder deems necessary.

3. If the emergency medical system is needed:

a. A coach or athletic training student will dial 911

b. The following information is to be given to the operator:

i. Name of the caller

ii. Number and name of injured athlete(s)

iii. Condition of athlete(s)

iv. Type of first aid being conducted and by who

Going south on 56th Street turn west and into the Reserved Parking located north of the football stadium, continue west to the end of the parking lot and enter through the west entrance of the Wrestling Facility

4. Assign an assistant coach or athletic training student to meet EMS as they arrive and have them direct EMS to the scene.

5. Have an assistant coach or an athletic training student accompany the athlete to the medical center with the proper insurance papers

6. The AT or head coach will notify the parents of the injured athlete and the location to which the athlete is being taken.

7. Notify the head AT and complete the necessary paperwork.
