Abel Stadium (Street Address: 5410 Huntington) stands as a cornerstone of Nebraska Wesleyan University athletics, serving as the proud home for our football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's track & field programs. More than just a playing field, Abel Stadium is a hub of activity for NWU students and the wider Lincoln community.
Located on the Nebraska Wesleyan campus, Abel Stadium's FieldTurf provides a top-tier playing surface for collegiate competition. This versatile field also accommodates practices for various athletic teams, including baseball and softball during their preseason, and is a popular spot for intramural sports. Beyond campus activities, the stadium is frequently utilized by local youth sports organizations and community events, embodying Nebraska Wesleyan's commitment to community engagement.
Stadium History and Enhancements
Abel Stadium has a rich history as a venue for NWU athletics, evolving over the years to meet the needs of a growing athletic department. Significant upgrades have ensured that the facility remains a premier venue for competition and training.
The most recent major renovation in 2025 will see the installation of a brand-new, state-of-the-art synthetic turf field. This upgrade ensures optimal performance and safety for our student-athletes and extends the usability of the field year-round. Universal Sport Lighting allows evening practices and competitions. The stadium seats 2,500 and a video replay board was installed in 2009. In 2010 the track was completely renovated with a new Mondo surface. A press box renovation in 2011 doubled the size of the press box which now provides a comfortable viewing area for media and coaches.
The stadium also features modern amenities for both athletes and spectators, including dedicated locker rooms, training areas, and seating that offers excellent views of the action. With its vibrant atmosphere and central location, Abel Stadium continues to be a point of pride for Nebraska Wesleyan University.
