CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's golf team moved one spots up the leaderboard during the final round of the season-opening Kohawk Classic. The team carded an 52-over 340 on Sunday (Sept. 6) to leapfrog Central (B) and finish in 12th place.

Julia Messere fired an 8-over 80 in the final round to soar into the Top 35 of the individual leaderboard. With the help of two birdies in the final 18 holes, the freshman placed tied for 31st at 21-over (85-80—165) in her first collegiate tournament. She also ranked tied for second in the field in par-5 scoring, playing those holes 1-under par.

O'Brasia Amos tied for 40th (+26).  Junior Lauren Hays played some her best golf as a Prairie Wolf by shooting a final round 85 (+13). 

Wartburg and Mount Mercy tied to win the event, claiming a one-shot victory over Dubuque. Mount Mercy's Chiara Bothe fired a 69 (-3) to jump to the top of the leaderboard and take home medalist honors.

After wrapping up the season-opening tournament, Nebraska Wesleyan heads to Buena Vista to compete in the BVU Fall Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa (Sept. 19-20).
