Mid-Game Lull Halts Prairie Wolves in 86-50 Loss to Luther

Lincoln, NE - Despite a solid start, a mid-game lull halted Nebraska Wesleyan in Saturday's 86-50 loss to Luther College. With the loss, NWU falls to 4-14 overall, and 1-8 in the A-R-C. Luther now sits at 10-8 and 6-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Nebraska Wesleyan and Luther battled early, with the teams trading points on their first few possessions. Anastyn Pettlon led the Prairie Wolves early, knocking down one three pointer and adding a free throw, while Maddie Demke and Alison Davis each recorded a lay ups as the Norse held a 12-8 lead with just under five minutes to play. The Norse would counter with a lay up to push their lead back to six, but Anastyn Pettlon quickly connected on her second triple of the day to chop the lead in half. However, Luther scored the next five points to grab a 19-11 advantage. A Peyton Tritz three pulled NWU within five, but the Norse answered with a three of their own to lead 22-14. The Prairie Wolves would go on to cut the lead to two scores on a buzzer beating Alison Davis lay up.

Second Quarter: Leading by just six, Luther blitzed Nebraska Wesleyan in the early moments of the second quarter, going on a 13-3 run to lead 35-19. NWU answered with a 6-2 stretch that saw lay ups from Maddie Demke, Alison Davis, and Anastyn Pettlon to cut the Norse lead to 37-25 with two minutes remaining in the first half. From there the Norse retook control, finishing the half with seven straight points to lead 44-25. 

Third Quarter: Luther continued to roll in the third quarter, outscoring NWU 19-9 to build a 63-34 advantage. Despite the deficit, the Black and Gold continued to play hard, with Maddie Demke draining a three, Carney Black adding two lay ups, while Rhyanne Mackling chipped in two points.

Fourth Quarter: Maddie Demke and Carney Black continued to provide the offense for NWU in the fourth quarter, scoring five and four points respectively. The Prairie Wolves also turned to Mary Webber, who came of the bench to score five points. However, Nebraska Wesleyan was unable to mount a comeback as Luther pulled away to win 86-50.
