Nebraska Wesleyan Drops Doubleheader at #22 Coe Despite Strong Start

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan baseball couldn't hold onto an early lead in game one and struggled to keep pace in game two, falling twice to #22 Coe College on Saturday at Bill Quinby Field. The Prairie Wolves led 4-1 in the opener before Coe rallied late for an 8-4 win, then were outmatched in an 8-3 loss in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: COE 8, NWU 4

NWU took a 2-1 lead in the second inning after loading the bases with three straight walks. Jack Carver drove in the first run with an RBI single, and Aaron Chazin followed with a fielder's choice to plate another. The Prairie Wolves extended the lead to 4-1 in the seventh on RBI singles from Easton Johnson and Duncan Ortega, but Coe answered with a six-run eighth inning to steal the win.

Theo Hughes gave NWU a strong start, allowing just two runs over 6.2 innings with six strikeouts. Brady Bell and Max Brammier couldn't hold the lead in relief, combining to allow six runs in the eighth. Chazin had two hits, while Ortega, Johnson and Carver drove in runs.

GAME TWO: COE 8, NWU 3

Coe's offense struck early, scoring six runs in the first inning to take control. NWU fought back with a run in the sixth and two in the eighth, but the deficit proved too large. Easton Johnson had two RBIs in the loss, while Brady Bell, Duncan Ortega, and Dakota Pruitt and Aaron Chazin added hits.
