Baseball Sweeps Lawrence University in Day 1 Doubleheader

Lincoln, NE (March 1, 2025) – Nebraska Wesleyan baseball continued its strong start to the season with a commanding doubleheader sweep of Lawrence University on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves took game one 6-3 before run-ruling the Vikings 13-2 in seven innings in game two.

GAME ONE: NWU 6, Lawrence 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lawrence struck early in game one, scoring three runs in the first five innings to hold a 3-0 lead over the host Prairie Wolves. The Prairie Wolves exploded in the fourth with a four run inning. Tommy Fiocchi led off with a single to right center. Dakota Pruitt earned a walk to put runners on first and second. Aaron Chazin  capitalized with an RBI double to left center that put the Prairie Wolves on the board for the first time of the day. Carter Betts followed with an RBI on a fielders choice. Chazin scored on an error and Bell added another run on a Jake Gerardis single to give NWU a 4-3 lead.

NWU added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Fiocchi again led off, this time with a solo homer, his second of the season  to extend the lead to 5-3. Following a walk, Pruitt scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

On the mound, Robbie Ross delivered a solid performance, allowing three runs over five innings while striking out eight. James Van Cleave, Caesar Salas and Owen Duckworth combined for four scoreless innings of relief to secure the win.

GAME TWO: NWU 13, Lawrence 2 (7 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Prairie Wolves left no doubt in game two, exploding for 13 runs on 12 hits. NWU jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning, highlighted by RBI's from Brady Bell, Easton Johnson, and Rudy Gres IV. Lawrence managed a run in the fourth, but Nebraska Wesleyan responded with a six-run outburst in the sixth inning. Duncan Ortega continued his hot streak with another two-run double, and Bell added a two-run triple. Fiocchi capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 13-2.

The NWU pitching staff was dominant in game two, with Dominic Sis and Tyler Spreitzer combining for seven innings of two-run ball. Sis struck out four over four innings, while Spreitzer closed the door with three scoreless frames.
