CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling wrapped up Day 1 of the NCAA Lower Midwest Regionals on Friday, with Jared Gallub (141 lbs) leading the charge by advancing to the semifinals. Robbie Fisher (133 lbs) also kept his season alive, battling through the wrestlebacks to stay in contention for a podium finish.
Gallub opened his tournament with a dominant performance, securing a fall (5:00) over Ashton Keller of Schreiner in the first round. He followed that up with a hard-fought 10-3 decision against Caden Schrage of Luther College in the quarterfinals, showcasing his ability to control the pace and capitalize on key scoring opportunities. Gallub will now face Tommy Thongseng of Wartburg College in the semifinals tomorrow, with a spot in the championship match and a trip to the NCAA Championships on the line.
At 133 pounds, Robbie Fisher faced a tough road after dropping his opening match to #9 nationally Bryce Parke of Coe College. However, Fisher bounced back in the wrestlebacks, pinning Isaac Smith of Eureka in just 2:03 to keep his tournament hopes alive. Fisher's resilience sets up a critical match tomorrow morning, where he'll look to continue his climb through the consolation bracket.
The Prairie Wolves also saw contributions from other wrestlers, including Travis Guzman (149 lbs), Seth Littrell (165 lbs.) and Emilio Chavez (174 lbs), who battled hard but fell short in their respective brackets. All three picked up a win in the wrestlebacks with a fall before being eliminated.
