Men's Basketball Dominates Buena Vista on Senior Day

Lincoln, NE – (February 22, 2025) Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball delivered a dominant senior night performance in an 80-55 victory over Buena Vista, Saturday afternoon. The win moves Nebraska Wesleyan to 19-6 overall, and 12-4 in American Rivers Conference play. 

How It Happened

Nebraska Wesleyan burst out to a quick 11-3 lead over the first 4:30 of the game. The opening run saw Seth Newton, Conner Brown, and Andrew Brewer each score at least one basket. From there, NWU continued to score by committee as the Prairie Wolves grew their lead to 13 over the ensuing five minutes. After a short Buena Vista run that cut the score to 25-17, Jared Townsley flipped the momentum back into NWU's favor with a three point shot. The made three kick started a 9-0 run that put Nebraska Wesleyan up 34-17. Buena Vista would close the gap to 10, before a Jack Groeteke dunk put Nebraska Wesleyan up 38-26. The Prairie Wolves then proceeded to grow their lead to 45-26. Buena Vista would outscore Nebraska Wesleyan 5-0 over the remainder of the half. The Prairie Wolves brought a 45-31 lead into the locker room. 

Nebraska Wesleyan continued to flex their muscle with a quick 8-0 run out of halftime. After a brief response by Buena Vista, the Black and Gold put the hammer down with a 17-7 run that grew the lead to 71-41. While a Buena Vista temporarily halted the momentum, Nebraska Wesleyan once again pushed the pace offensively with a 6-2 run to go ahead 77-46. From there, NWU would tack on three more points en route to an 80-55 victory. Five players scored in double figures for Nebraska Wesleyan, while the team shot 53.4% from the floor.

  • Carter Glenn led NWU with 14 points, while recording five steals, four assists, and three rebounds.
  • Jack Groeteke finished with 13 points, six rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal.
  • Conner Brown tallied 13 points, five rebounds, one block, and one steal.
  • Seth Newton scored 12 points, while bringing down five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Jared Townsley went for 12 points and totaled five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
