MANKATO, Minn. – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team kicked off their 2025 season in style at the Mankato Dome Games on Saturday, securing a pair of victories. The Prairie Wolves edged Gustavus Adolphus 2-1 in a tightly contested opener before cruising to an 8-0 win over St. Scholastica in their second game of the day.

Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 2, Gustavus Adolphus 1
The Prairie Wolves struck early, scoring both of their runs in the second inning. Taylor Korecky got things started with a double to right field, and Eva Fahrnbruch followed with an RBI single up the middle to bring Korecky home. Hanna Roth then delivered a clutch single to right field, driving in Kenzie Heedum, who had walked earlier in the inning, to give NWU a 2-0 lead.
Gustavus Adolphus threatened late, scoring their lone run in the seventh inning. However, Nebraska Wesleyan's defense held firm, securing the season-opening win.
Elise Warneke was stellar in the circle for the Prairie Wolves, pitching a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out two. She worked efficiently, facing 24 batters and keeping the Gusties off balance throughout the game.
Game 2: Nebraska Wesleyan 8, St. Scholastica 0
In their second game of the day, the Prairie Wolves dominated from start to finish. The offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a balanced attack that saw contributions up and down the lineup. Lyndsey Roth led the charge with two hits, while Val Gerlach and Jenna Kimberling each added a pair of key hits to keep the pressure on St. Scholastica.
Eva Fahrnbruch was equally as impressive in the circle, pitching a shutout. Fahrnbruch started the game and tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out two.
