PLATTEVILLE, WIS. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team suffered a tough non-conference defeat on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Pioneers of Wisconsin-Platteville by a score of 6-0. With this loss, the Prairie Wolves drop to 3-4-4 overall (1-0-1 A-R-C), while UW-Platteville improves to 6-2-3 (0-0-1 WIAC).
"We really got put to the test today," said Head Coach Brandon Bonilla. "Wisconsin-Platteville came out strong, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes that really shell-shocked us. It doesn't matter if there are excuses; the only positive is that this wasn't a conference match. We have Dubuque next, and they just tied Luther. Their record is deceiving. We need three points, and if we do that, we are still in a position to do what we want to do. Back to the drawing board and back again on Saturday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match began with the Pioneers striking early, slashing home their first goal from outside the box in the 14th minute. Platteville quickly followed up with a powerful shot that found the back of the net, doubling their lead just minutes later. By the 20th minute, the Pioneers had connected again, making it 3-0 and leaving the Prairie Wolves struggling to regain their composure.
In the second half, UW-Platteville continued to dominate, scoring three more goals within eight minutes, solidifying their commanding 6-0 lead. The Prairie Wolves managed to muster five shots throughout the match, but the Pioneers outshot them 13-5.
Nebraska Wesleyan goalkeeper Graedon Hilton faced a barrage of shots, tallying three saves in a challenging outing.
