Nebraska Wesleyan Falls to Coe in Home Conference Match

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team hosted perennial American Rivers Conference power Coe College on Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 at the LSF Sports Complex. The Kohawks, who entered the match with one of the top records in the league, swept doubles play and carried momentum into singles to earn the team victory.

The dual moves Nebraska Wesleyan to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action, while Coe improved to 6-2 and 6-1 in the A-R-C.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Doubles:
Coe's experience at the top of the lineup was on display early as the Kohawks claimed all three doubles courts. At No. 1, the duo of Aisha Gurung and Addison Leasure topped Crystal Craft and Caitlin Hudson, 6-1. The No. 2 team of Sophia Fain and Alice Tysoe followed with a 6-2 decision over Kylie Engelsman and Parker Brown. At No. 3, Coe's pair of Cosette Gaines and Maria Bello Escobar secured a 6-2 win against Jayna Erickson and Gracey Smith to clinch the doubles point.

Singles:

In singles, Coe built on its early advantage with strong performances across the lineup. Fain controlled the pace at No. 1 singles, defeating Craft 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Leasure earned a straight-set victory over Engelsman, 6-2, 6-2.

The middle courts proved just as challenging, as Gurung bested Brown at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1) and Tysoe topped Erickson at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1). In the most competitive matches of the day, Smith battled deep into rallies at No. 5 before falling 6-2, 6-4 to Bello Escobar, while Sylvia Kamradt pushed through long points at No. 6 before Gaines finished off the match 6-0, 6-1.
