LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan University swimming celebrated Senior Day with dominant victories in a dual against Morningside on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves women cruised to a 144-19 win, while the men secured a commanding 119-73 triumph.
How It Happened
The women's team established their dominance early, opening with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Lilly Brennan, Ava Hunt, Beatrice Massa Micon, and Lydi O'Neil clocked a 1:51.76 to claim first place. The squad continued to shine with individual wins from Lili Spady in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.02), Elena Lazzaretto in the 400-yard IM (4:45.13), and Lizzie Meyer in the 50-yard freestyle (26.38). In the 100-yard freestyle, O'Neil touched the wall first in 55.97, while Massa Micon dominated the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.63.
Sydney Leslie delivered a standout performance in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:36.30. The women capped their day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Lazzaretto, Hannah Gibbs, Massa Micon, and O'Neil combined for a 1:39.83, sealing their decisive team win.
The men's team faced a tougher challenge but ultimately prevailed. Zachary Cantorna set the tone, breaking a Weary Natatorium pool record in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle (16:40.31). In the 200-yard freestyle, Burke Lauseng claimed first in 1:51.90, edging out a competitive field. Landen Otaka topped the 100-yard butterfly (57.64), and Mattia Rosatelli led the 100-yard freestyle in 48.23.
The Prairie Wolves closed the meet in style with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kai Trotman, Dylan Fucik, Brodie Hoesing, and Rosatelli combined for a 1:29.34 to punctuate the victory.
