Baseball Concludes Season with Losses to Luther

Lincoln, Neb. (April 28th, 2024)- The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team concluded its season with two losses to Luther on Sunday. The Norse took game one 10-7, and game two 20-7. Nebraska Wesleyan's final record is 9-28. 

GAME ONE 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless innings, Evan Kling singled and scored Dylan Howell and Jason English in the third. 
  • Luther scored one run in the top of the fourth. Nebraska Wesleyan countered with a Max Bugbee home run to retake a 3-1 lead.
  • Luther took the lead by scoring five runs in the fifth. Nebraska Wesleyan responded by scoring two runs on an Evan Kling home run in the bottom of the inning. 
  • Luther scored one run in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. An Evan Kling double tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Norse retook the lead by scoring one run in the seventh.
  • Luther added two insurance runs in the ninth and kept Nebraska Wesleyan from scoring to secure a 10-7 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Luther blew the game open early, scoring 14 runs in the first two innings.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan got on the board with a second inning Carter Bjorkman RBI ground out that scored Owen Machal. Then, Max Bugbee hit a solo home run.
  • In the third, Jason English stole home to give NWU its third run of the game.
  • Luther responded by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth. NWU would answer with Jason English scoring on a throwing error, and Matthew Brown scoring on a wild pitch. 
  • A sixth inning RBI single from Evan Kling made the score 17-6. Then Brady Bell drove in Dylan Howell to make the score 17-7.
  • Luther answered by scoring three more runs in the seventh. The Norse would hold NWU scoreless for the final few innings to earn a 20-7 victory.
