Softball Splits Tuesday's Doubleheader with (RV) Coe

Lincoln, Neb. (April 23rd, 2024)- The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team took one of two games against (RV) Coe College on Tuesday. The Kohawks won game one 8-7, while the Prairie Wolves won game two 12-2.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless innings, Coe struck first by scoring one run in the bottom of the third.
  • In the fifth, Val Gerlach gave Nebraska Wesleyan the lead by hitting an RBI double that scored Lyndsey Roth and Hanna Roth. Then, Shelby Gunther scored on an error by Coe's catcher. To cap off a four run inning, Jenna Kimberling drove in Paige Davison to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 4-1 lead. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan stretched its lead to 7-1 by hitting two home runs in the top of the sixth. The first home run was a two run shot that came off the bat of Amber Kosmicki. Lyndsey Roth followed up with a solo shot to center field. However, Coe would respond by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
  • The Kohawks would score two more runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. 
  • Coe would score in the bottom of the eighth to earn an 8-7 walk off victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After neither team was able to score in the first two innings, Coe scored one run in the third.
  • A fourth inning Paige Davison RBI single tied the game at one.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan blew the game open by scoring eight runs in the top of the fifth. First, Addie Duranski scored on a fielder's choice, then Lyndsey Roth hit a three run home run to give NWU a 5-1 lead. Then Becca Chloupek scored on a wild pitch. Next Paige Davison scored on a fielder's choice. Addie Duranski capped off the inning with a two run home run. Coe would score one run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan tacked on three more runs in the seventh. Amber Kosmicki scored on a Paige Davison sacrifice fly. Then Lyndsey Roth scored on a Sami MacDonald single. Finally, Val Gerlach scored on a Taylor Korecky single. Nebraska Wesleyan would hold Coe scoreless to secure a 12-2 victory.
