Women's Basketball Takes Tough Loss to Buena Vista

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to 0-13 on the season after suffering a 74-58 loss to the Buena Vista Beavers on Wednesday evening

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nella Castaneda scored the first two points of a tightly contested first quarter. As the game swung back and forth both teams strived to grab the momentum. It looked like Buena Vista was going to grab control with a 5-0 run to take a 10-8 lead late in the quarter, but Mya Sohl scored a late lay up to tie the game at 10. The first quarter saw five different Nebraska Wesleyan players score, as the team combined to shoot 23.53% from the floor.
  • The game continued to go back and forth in the second quarter. Nebraska Wesleyan gained a four point lead early in the quarter, only to see Buena Vista respond to take a 17-16 lead later in the quarter. The Prairie Wolves punched back to take a 22-19 lead late in the quarter before Buena Vista tied it up with a three. However, with one second left on the clock Anna Vandenack made a lay up to put Nebraska Wesleyan up 24-22 at halftime.
  • The game remained competitive until mid way through the third quarter, that is when Buena Vista went on a 27-12 run to end the third quarter. The run gave Buena Vista a 53-40 lead as the game turned to the fourth and final quarter.
  • Though Nebraska Wesleyan fought hard in the fourth quarter, the Prairie Wolves were unable to stage a comeback and fell to their conference rival 74-58.
