Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. (September 23, 2023) - Nebraska Wesleyan moved to 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, following a 56-6 loss to Coe College.
- The Prairie Wolves were held at bay in the first half of Saturday's conference contest. Nebraska Wesleyan was outscored 35-0 in the first 30 minutes, while only totaling 80 yards of offense.
- The high-tempo offense of the Kohawks moved the sticks 19 times to NWU's one.
- Coming out of halftime, Coe College found the end zone on back-to-back drives, extending their lead to 48.
- Coach Keller and the Black and Gold went with a quarterback change midway through the third quarter to try and light a spark in the Prairie Wolves' offense. Evan K. Johnson got the nod, and on his second drive, the senior took Nebraska Wesleyan 67 yards on 13 plays and capped things off with a four-yard pitch and catch to the tight end, Kevin Starnes.
- Although the victory was out of reach for NWU, the defense made strides in the second half and played their best quarter of football in the final 15 minutes. A unit that was led by Jacob Leu and Eli Mackowski on the day held the Kohawks scoreless in two of their last three drives of the afternoon.
