Football Comes Up Short at Buena Vista

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to Buena Vista, 25-20, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Nebraska Wesleyan concludes the season 4-6 (2-6).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trading punts, Buena Vista embarked on a 14 play, 51 yard drive that resulted in a Ben Crock field goal. No other points were scored in the first quarter.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan responded with an 11 play, 60 yard drive that was capped off with an 18 yard touchdown pass from Carter Terry to Trystin Myers.
  • The two defenses settled in as the teams traded punts on their next few drives. After forcing a punt, Buena Vista drove 19 yards in five plays and tied the game at six on a Ben Crock field goal.
  • Buena Vista kicked field goals on their first two drives of the second half to take a 12-6 lead.
  • Later in the third quarter, Buena Vista extended their lead on a seven yard touchdown pass from Zach Herrera to Gavin Honkomp. The third quarter ended with Buena Vista up 18-6.
  • After stopping Nebraska Wesleyan, Buena Vista's Gavin Honkomp extended the Beaver lead to 25-6 on a 71 yard touchdown run. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan got back in the game on its ensuing possession, going on a five play, 45 yard drive and scoring on an 11 yard pass from Carter Terry to Jaheim Felder
  • After stopping Buena Vista, Nebraska Wesleyan cut the deficit to five on a 12 yard pass from Carter Terry to Trystin Myers.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan's defense gave the offense one more opportunity but Carter Terry's Hail Mary throw was intercepted.
