Prairie Wolves Knock Off Kohawks, Advance In A-R-C Tournament

Storm Lake, Iowa (May 6, 2022) - The sixth-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan softball team knocked off third-seeded Coe College, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the 2022 American Rivers Conference tournament in Storm Lake, Iowa.

A big third inning propelled NWU to its second straight A-R-C semifinal appearance. Four straight hits in the inning set-up the Prairie Wolves. After Hanna Roth roped a double to right center, Paige Davison drove Roth in with a single down the left field line to tie the game. Taylor Styskal then lined a double to right center field to plate Davison. A well place bunt from Kailey Meyer scored Styskal for a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan turned a wild pitch from the Kohawks into a run and a 4-2 advantage. Coe managed to scrape a run across in the bottom of the inning but the Prairie Wolves had another offensive burst to pull away.

NWU scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Hanna Roth scored on a groundout for the first run. Meyer then ripped a double down the left field line, which scored Davison and put the game away.

Kailey Meyer earned the complete game victory in the circle. Meyer allowed just three runs on six hits with five strikeouts. The wire-to-wire performance is Meyer's eighth complete game of the season. NWU's first three batters in the line-up provided run support for Meyer. The trio accounted for all six of the Prairie Wolves runs and combined for six of the team's nine hits.
