Prairie Wolves Come Up Short In A-R-C Quarterfinals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (February 22, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to Coe, 74-65, in the American Rivers Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday evening. NWU finishes with a record of .500 or better for the 10th consecutive season and continues its streak of making the A-R-C quarterfinal each year it has been a member of the A-R-C.

The Prairie Wolves looked like they would start March Madness a week early as they jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. NWU pushed its lead to nine points on a Peter Lash jumper at the 13:54 mark. But the Kohawks found life with a 16-4 run to close out the first half. For the half, the Prairie Wolves shot just 25.8 percent from the field and 20 percent from the three-point line.

After the cold finish to the first half, Nebraska Wesleyan warmed up in the second half. NWU shot 53.6 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from the three-point arc. The Prairie Wolves also made nine trips to the free-throw line after getting there twice in the opening half.

But Coe's shooting also improved over the second frame, going 60 percent from the field. The strong half from the Kohawks helped them maintain the lead and never let NWU get within seven points in the second half.

Nebraska Wesleyan had a balanced attack on offense with 12 players scoring at least two points. Carter Glenn, Landon Torneten, and Tyler Converse each scored nine points. NWU's three seniors all tallied two or more points in the game with Converse's nine points, Terrence Gilder's seven points, and Jordan Stoehr's three points.
