INDIANAPOLIS (August 2, 2021) - The NCAA announced that Nebraska Wesleyan track and field student-athletes,
Aspen Rolfes and
Trent Koehler, were both awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
The addition of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship added to Rolfes's decorated career as a Prairie Wolf. Rolfes was a four-time National Champion, eight-time All-American, 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American, and NWU's 2021 Outstanding Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Rolfes also earned four USTFCCCA All-Region accolades and 18 All-Conference awards in her career. The Lincoln, Nebraska native (Lincoln Pius X High School) graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and had a 3.90 GPA.
An NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was added to a long list of awards for Koehler as well. Koehler was a four-time All-American in the long jump, two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, 13-time All-Conference honoree, and four-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection. Additionally, Koehler was the 2018 American Rivers Conference indoor long jump champion and owns the seventh-best long jump mark in program history. A native of York, Nebraska (York High School), Koehler graduated with a degree in biology and had a 3.64 GPA.
Rolfes and Koehler moved Nebraska Wesleyan to 27 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients in track and field/cross country and 63 honorees in all sports. The Prairie Wolves had multiple selections in each of the last two years and had at least one student-athlete earn the award every year since 1997. Since 2000, the NWU track and field/cross country program has led the nation, regardless of division, with NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners. To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must meet minimum GPA requirements and have performed with distinction as a varsity team member in the sport in which he or she was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution, and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
