LINCOLN, Neb. (November 27, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball defeated East Texas Baptist University, 76-73, on the second day of the 2021 Snyder Classic in Lincoln. NWU outscored ETBU, 27-12, in the last 6:30 of the game.
Connor Riekenberg ignited a furious Prairie Wolf comeback when he completed a layup and free-throw after being fouled on a play with 5:39 left in the second half. Carter Glenn fed off the momentum as Glenn scored eight straight points on the next four possessions to cut the deficit to 66-62.
The Tigers extended their lead with a pair of free-throws but back-to-back baskets from Tyler Converse and Peter Lash made it a one point game. Lash would connect on a jumper off of a pass from Landon Torneten with 1:33 left for the lead. A layup by Terrence Gilder bumped the lead to four before ETBU got a jumper. Converse and Riekenberg iced the game for the Prairie Wolves as both hit two free-throws down the stretch.
During the comeback, Riekenberg and Glenn combined for 17 of NWU's 27 points. As a team, Nebraska Wesleyan went 9-for-12 from the field and 8-for-10 at the free-throw line. NWU also forced East Texas Baptist into six turnovers.
Lash paced the Prairie Wolves with 24 points and nine rebounds. Glenn netted 18 points as Converse added 11 points and Riekenberg chipped in 10 points. Josh Rogers grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Additionally, Lash was named the MVP of the 32nd Annual Snyder Classic. Lash scored 47 points and grabbed 21 rebounds over the two games in the Snyder Classic. Below is the 2021 Snyder Classic All-Tournament team.
