Kohawks Get Past Prairie Wolves in Season Finale

LINCOLN, Neb. (November 13, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan football team fell, 53-21, to Coe College in its season finale on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon.

The Prairie Wolves hit paydirt on their opening drive with a 56 yard touchdown pass from Carter Terry to David O'Connell, just over two and half minutes into the game. The big scoring play wouldn't be the only time the duo would connect during the afternoon.

Needing a jolt after a fourth quarter Kohawk field goal. Terry dialed up another deep ball for O'Connell that went 56 yards for a Nebraska Wesleyan score. After NWU forced Coe to go three and out, Terry again found O'Connell open down field. The third score of the day would be from 74 yards out, the longest passing play of the season. O'Connell's three touchdown receptions are also the most by a Prairie Wolf this season.

Defensively, Kaden Dawe had a career-day in his final appearance on the Abel Stadium turf. Dawe recorded 21 tackles, including 13 solo tackles. The 21 stops by Dawe are the most in his career and the most by an NWU defender since September 23, 2017.

Jacob Garnas, also playing in his last game at NWU, recorded 12 tackles, seven of which were solo stops. Kodjo Atikpohou registered the Prairie Wolves lone takeaway with an interception in the second quarter to end a Kohawk red zone scoring threat. Additionally, Atikpohou's interception gave Nebraska Wesleyan at least one takeaway in nine games this season.
