MINNEOLA, Fla. – Nebraska Wesleyan posted a pair of one-run victories to extend their winning streak to five games on their spring trip to Florida. The Prairie Wolves opened the day with a 4-3 win over Case Western Reserve, then got a 1-0 victory over Defiance to complete the day.
NWU (8-4) earned the comeback victory in the first game of the day scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Taylor Styskal hit a two-run double to drive in
Emma Alfieri and
Meredith Poppe with the go-ahead runs.
From there,
Kailey Meyer kept CWRU off the board in the sixth inning then
Bailey Green came into to pitch the seventh and earn her first save of the year. Meyer moved to 4-2 on the season going six innings allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Prairie Wolves scored their first run in the second inning when
Mollie Grant doubled then scored on a ground out by
Alycin Braun. Styskal doubled in the fourth inning and would score on a double by Braun for the other run of the game.
Morgan Shipley, Alfieri and Styskal all had two performances for the Prairie Wolves.
It was a pitchers dual between Defiance and Nebraska Wesleyan in game two. NWU pitcher
Elise Warneke got the complete game shutout victory allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts.
The only run of the game came by the Prairie Wolves in the second inning. Grant doubled, then came in to score on a RBI groundout by Shipley.
NWU had 12 hits in the game, but left 14 runners on base. Styskal was 3-for-4 to lead the NWU offense while Alfieri, Grant and Braun each had two hits.
The Prairie Wolves are scheduled to play three more games on their trip in Florida.
