LINCOLN, Neb. – American Rivers Conference football action gets underway this Saturday (Sept. 21) when Nebraska Wesleyan University visits Buena Vista University for the conference opener. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Beavers is set for 1 p.m. at Rollins Stadium in Storm Lake, Iowa.
It is a matchup of undefeated teams that both bring a lot of momentum into Saturday's contest. NWU is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2006 while BVU is 2-0 for only the second time since 2003.
The Prairie Wolves make their first road trip of the 2019 season and are looking to earn their first conference road win since 2017. NWU is coming off a 25-20 win over Illinois College where they got ahead big early then withstood a late charge by the Blueboys.
Buena Vista had a blowout win in their opener, then made a huge comeback last week to defeat Concordia University (Neb.). The Beavers trailed 24-0 at halftime then scored 27 unanswered points, including 20 in the 4
th quarter to cap the win with a last minute TD pass.
In each of the previous three meetings between the Prairie Wolves and Beavers the game has been decided by seven points or less. The last road conference win by NWU was at BVU on Oct. 21, 2017. Buena Vista has lost 12 straight conference games, dating back to the 2017 with their last league win coming on Oct. 7, 2017.
