LINCOLN – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will host Illinois College in week two of the 2019 season on Saturday (Sept. 14) at Abel Stadium. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Blueboys is set for 1 p.m.
Both NWU and Illinois College are coming off opening week victories and have 1-0 records to start 2019. This is the second straight season the two teams are meeting in week two of the football schedule. Last season the Prairie Wolves won 31-12 in Jacksonville, Ill.
NWU is attempting to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2006. Last week they won 49-35 over Westminster College in the home opener. The Prairie Wolves had record setting performances on offense, scored a special teams touchdown and forced two turnovers on defense in the complete team effort.
Quarterback
Jonathan Curti became the program's all-time leading passer and threw for a career-high six touchdowns. Five of his touchdown passes went to receiver
Derrick Curtis who set a new NWU single game record for TD receptions. Linebacker
Kaden Dawe was named the American Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Week to lead the Prairie Wolves defense.
Illinois College won 22-7 over Rhodes College in their home opener using a strong performance on defense and special teams. The Blueboys also blocked two punts in the game, returning one for a TD. On defense, IC limited Rhodes to only 127 yards of total offense. Quarterback Drew Chance is in his third year as a starter to lead the Blueboys offense.
