Two Blowout Wins End Softball Trip in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team ended their spring trip in Florida with a pair of blowout victories on Sunday (March 17).  NWU defeated Wisconsin-Superior 9-0 in five innings, then rolled past Ripon 9-1 in six innings to finish the trip.
 
NWU went 10-2 on their trip and improved the overall record to 12-4 this season. 
 
In the victory over UW-Superior, the Prairie Wolves scored four runs in the 3rd inning and five in the 4th inning to end the game due to the run rule.  Meredith Poppe hit a 2-run single with Payton Swanson getting an RBI double and Kayla Prai an RBI single.
 
The next inning was just as productive for the Prairie Wolves plating five runs on six hits.  For the second straight inning, Destiny Indra hit a double and came around to score.  Morgan Shipley had a 2-run single and Danelle Snyder drove in a run with a double.
 
That is all starting pitcher Kailey Meyer needed for the complete game shutout victory.  Meyer allowed only two hits and struck out five with no walks to improve to 6-3.
 
Shipley, Snyder and Swanson all had two hits to lead the NWU attack.  The Prairie Wolves finished with 12 total hits.
 
The Prairie Wolves pounded out 13 hits in the 9-1 victory over Ripon that was called after six innings due to the run rule.  NWU scored a run in five of the six innings, including three runs in the bottom of the 5th.
 
Alicia Perrien went 3-3 with a double and RBI to lead the NWU attack.  Snyder was 2-2 with an RBI and Swanson went 2-3.
 
Grace Sommer got the victory on the mound going five innings allowing one unearned run with five strikeouts.
