#6 Prairie Wolves Take Down Another Undefeated Team

DUBUQUE, Iowa – For the second straight game, the 6th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team took down an undefeated team as the Prairie Wolves went on the road to hand University of Dubuque their first loss 88-63 on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7) in American Rivers Conference action.
 
NWU opened the second half on a 26-9 run in the first nine minutes of the second half to break open a game that was only 38-30 at halftime.  The Prairie Wolves scored the first seven points of the second half and didn't allow the Spartans to make a field goal until the 14:39 mark of the half.
 
After sitting out a majority of the first half with foul trouble, senior Nate Schimonitz came out firing in the second half. Schimonitz scored 15 points during the Prairie Wolves big run in the first nine minutes and ended the game with 21 points.
 
Once again the Prairie Wolves shot over 50 percent from the field as team ending the game at 51.5 percent.  NWU was 10-32 on 3-pointers and 8-10 at the free throw line.  The Spartans struggled shooting at only 33.9 percent. Dubuque did make 14 3-pointers on 35 total attempts.
 
Dylan Dirks was the top scorer for the Prairie Wolves, making 5-9 from 3-point range to finish with 23 points.  Schimonitz scored 21 on 9-15 shooting giving NWU two players with over 20 points.
 
Jack Hiller scored 13 points with four assists and Cordell Gillingham came off the bench to score 11 points.  Clay Reimers led NWU with 10 rebounds to go along with his eight points.
 
Only one Spartan player reached double figures in scoring.  Avery Butler finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
NWU now has a week off before returning to the court next Saturday at Wartburg College.
