STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team ended their fall conference schedule on a high note Saturday (Oct. 5) when the Prairie Wolves defeated Buena Vista University 7-0 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Earlier in the day, NWU dropped a 7-2 decision to Coe College in a match that was also played in Storm Lake.
NWU ends the fall portion of their schedule at 2-6 overall to finish 7
th in the American Rivers Conference standings, one spot out of qualifying for the postseason tournament.
The Prairie Wolves won two doubles matches and came out on top of five singles matches, all straight set wins.
Brooke Sailer won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles then joined up with
Kailey Jay-Kissler at No. 1 doubles to win 8-4. Jay-Kissler was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the No. 3 singles.
Shea Swanson and
Samantha Slizoski teamed together for an 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Swanson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Slizoski earned a forfeit victory at No. 5 singles. The other singles winner was
Han Le at No. 2 singles winning 6-1, 6-3.
BVU (0-12, 0-8 A-R-C) only had four players in the match, giving up one forfeit. NWU played only five players which meant No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles weren't played by either team.
Against Coe College, the Prairie Wolves picked up their two victories in singles play. Sailer won 6-7, 6-4, 10-2 at No. 1 singles over Isabella Hoppenjans. Sailer ends the season 6-2 at No. 1 singles play in her first season. Jay-Kissler got the other win at No. 3 singles winning 6-4, 6-0 over Ella White.
Han Le lost in three sets at No. 2 singles and Slizoski fell in three sets at No. 5 singles. Once again the Prairie Wolves gave up two points due to playing with just five.
