Undefeated Prairie Wolves Welcome Storm on Saturday for Homecoming

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will put their undefeated record on the line this Saturday (Oct. 5) when the Prairie Wolves host Simpson College in the 2019 Homecoming football game at Abel Stadium.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Storm is set for 1 pm.

Nebraska Wesleyan is coming off their bye week with a 3-0 overall record and 1-0 mark in American Rivers Conference play.  Simpson College is off to a 3-1 start to the year and one of three teams sitting at 2-0 in the American Rivers Conference.

The Prairie Wolves are off to their best start since 2006 and want to try to make it four wins in a row to begin the 2019 season, something an NWU football team has not accomplished since 1991.  In their last game, the Prairie Wolves rallied back from a two-score deficit to put up 37 unanswered points in a 37-16 road victory at Buena Vista University in the American Rivers Conference opener.

Quarterback Jonathan Curti passed for 441 yards, the second most yards in a game by an NWU quarterback and went on to earn American Rivers Offensive Player of the Week honors.  Curti ranks 5th in NCAA III this season with 14 touchdown passes.  His top receiver once again was Derrick Curtis who caught two more touchdown passes giving him seven on the year to also rank in the top ten in NCAA III.

NWU's defense held BVU under 100 yards in the second half.  The Prairie Wolves already have six interceptions this season, equaling their total from the entire 2018 season.  They will be put to the test this week facing a very talented Simpson offense.

Simpson will provide the Prairie Wolves with their toughest test so far this year.  The Storm have won three straight games and their only loss was in the season opener to the 10th-ranked team in NCAA III football.

Last week, Simpson shutout BVU 46-0 piling up over 600 yards of total offense while holding the Beavers to under 200 yards.  The Storm feature the American Rivers conference leading rusher and receiver using a balanced offensive attack.

At halftime of Saturday's homecoming game, the newest class of the NWU Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced along with this year's Nebraska Wesleyan royalty.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live locally on LNK TV Education channel and streamed online courtesy of the NWU Sports Network.  Jeff Motz and Brett Edwards have the call on the TV broadcast this week.  In addition, the game can also be heard on KFOR 1240 AM/103.3 FM or online at kfornow.com with NWU Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Janda serving as the voice of the Prairie Wolves.
