MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9) as Cornell College shutout the Prairie Wolves 1-0.
Cornell remains undefeated as they improve to 4-0-1 on the year while NWU drops to 3-1.
The lone goal of the match came in the 69
th minute when Facundo Benavidez scored on an assist from Justin Howe. That was the only scoring for either team as the Prairie Wolves could not crack through the Rams defense.
Cornell finished with 18 total shots on the day, compared to just five for the Prairie Wolves. NWU had only two shots on goal while the Rams had nine. Five different players each had one shot attempt as
Logan Lawrence and
Aroque Bryant had the shots on goal.
Will Phillips recorded eight saves as the NWU goalkeeper.
Nebraska Wesleyan is on the road next weekend playing a pair of matches at North Central and Augustana.
