Reigning Conference Champion Visits Abel Stadium for Home Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. – After three straight road games to open the 2018 season, the Nebraska Wesleyan football team finally makes their home debut this Saturday when the Prairie Wolves host Wartburg College in American Rivers Conference action.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Knights is set for 1 pm at Abel Stadium.

NWU has started the season 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play as they dropped their American Rivers opener 27-21 last week at Simpson College.  The Prairie Wolves had an opportunity late but their potential game-winning drive was stalled in the final seconds.

Wartburg, who is the top team receiving votes in this week's Top 25 poll, is 2-1 to start the year and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference play.  The Knights began league play with a dominant 63-0 win over Buena Vista last Saturday.  Wartburg was ranked as high as No. 13 this season before they were upset by Monmouth College in week two.  They have been dominant in their two wins, defeating the two opponents by a combined score of 126-13.

In each of the first two meetings between NWU and Wartburg, the Prairie Wolves held first half leads only to see the Knights take control in the second half.  The Knights were the Prairie Wolves first ever Iowa Conference opponent in 2016 as NWU jumped out 17-0 only to see Wartburg score 38 unanswered points.

At halftime of Saturday's game, the Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team will receive their National Championship rings in a ceremony that will take place on the field.

For those not attending the game, all the action can be viewed live on video webcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network and LNKTV Sports.  It can also be heard live locally on KFOR 1240 AM/103.3 FM with Dick Janda handling the play-by-play duties.
