Women's Tennis Shutout BVU For First Win of Year

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday (Sept. 15) as the Prairie Wolves defeated Buena Vista University 6-0 in a match played in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Earlier in the day, NWU fell 8-1 to Coe College.
 
NWU is now 1-2 in their first season under new head coach Fungai Tongoona.  All three matches have been American Rivers Conference matches.
 
The Prairie Wolves earned the win over BVU taking advantage of three forfeits.  The Beavers had only four players so matches were not played at No. 5 and No. 6 singles or No. 3 doubles.
 
In the matches that were played, the Prairie Wolves were dominant winning all four singles matches in straight sets. Madi Hinshaw won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 7-5 over Emma Harts.  At No. 2 singles, Jordyn Fossell was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Madison Gierstorf.  Han Le posted a complete shutout of 6-0, 6-0 over Destiny Einerwold.  The final singles win was a 6-1, 6-2 victory for Shea Swanson over Carmen Morrison.
 
NWU took both doubles matches as well with Hinshaw and Fossell joining up to win 8-3 at No. 1.  Le and Swanson were 8-0 winners at the No. 2 doubles spot.
 
In the 8-1 loss to Coe, the Prairie Wolves gave up two automatic points with forfeits at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan got their only victory in a thrilling three set match at No. 4 singles.  Han Le was a 4-6, 6-1, 12-10 winner over Lakyn Boltz from Coe to give the Prairie Wolves their only point.
 
Coe moved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win over the Prairie Wolves.
