Conference Play Starts Saturday for Prairie Wolves Football

LINCOLN, Neb. – American Rivers Conference football will be played for the first time this Saturday (Sept. 15) as Nebraska Wesleyan University visits Simpson College in week one of conference play after the name change.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Storm is set for 1 pm at Buxton Stadium in Indianola, Iowa.

NWU will try to win their second straight game this week as the Prairie Wolves are coming off a 31-12 road win at Illinois College last Saturday to make their record 1-1.  This is the third straight road game for NWU in a third different state to open the year.

The Prairie Wolves were solid in all three phases of football last week to earn the win.  They will need to be even more effective this week as they begin conference play facing a team that received a first place vote in the American Rivers Conference preseason coaches' poll.

Simpson also has a 1-1 record entering the conference opener as the Storm picked up their initial win of the year last Saturday shutting out University of Chicago 21-0.  Simpson began the season with a 41-29 setback at home to Bethel University, a game they led late in the 3rd quarter.

In the first two conference meetings between the Prairie Wolves and Storm, NWU has come out on top as they are the only opponent the Prairie Wolves have defeated both times since joining the league.

Fans can hear all the action on Saturday on KFOR 1240 AM/103.3 FM or online at kfornow.com with NWU Hall of Fame Broadcaster Dick Janda calling the action.
