LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan kicks off their 2018 football season this Saturday (Sept. 1) when they travel to Moorhead, Minn., to face Concordia College in NCAA Division III action. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Cobbers is set for 1:00 pm at Jake Christiansen Stadium in Moorhead, Minn.
NWU is looking for a bounce back season after finishing the 2017 season with a 2-8 overall record. The Prairie Wolves won two out of their last three games and hope to carry that momentum into the upcoming year. Nebraska Wesleyan returns seven offensive starters from the 2017 team that set a school record for total offense averaging over 435 yards per game. NWU was picked to finish 7
th in the newly named American Rivers Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll.
Concordia College was picked to finish 3
rd in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and the Cobbers are receiving votes in the D3football.com/NCAA III Preseason Top 25 poll. They finished 8-2 in 2017 and were ranked 20
th in the final national poll. Concordia returns six starters on offense and eight on defense, but must replace the 2017 MIAC Offensive MVP. The Cobbers have won at least seven games in six straight seasons and are aiming to make their first playoff appearance since 2004.
Last season the two teams also met in the season opener with Concordia defeating NWU 34-14 in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
This is the first of three straight road games to open the year for the Prairie Wolves football team as they will play in four different states the first four games of the season.
