Nebraska Wesleyan Hosts #23 Central in Homecoming Football Game

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will host Central College this Saturday (Oct. 6) in the 2018 Homecoming Football game at Abel Stadium.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Duhawks is set for 1 pm.

Nebraska Wesleyan will look to earn their first conference win of the season as the Prairie Wolves enter the American Rivers Conference matchup with a 1-4 overall record and a 0-3 mark in conference play.  Central College is undefeated at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Prairie Wolves are coming off a 40-28 loss to Coe College last Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  NWU fell behind 17-0 and the lead was too much for the Prairie Wolves to overcome.  It was the second straight week that NWU has fallen behind by three scores in the first half.

Central entered the national rankings at No. 23 in the AFCA/Division III Top 25 poll this week.  They are off to their best start since the 2009 season and are the only conference team that has an overall undefeated record.  The Dutch have been dominant to start the season, especially in American Rivers Conference play as they have scored over 60 points in two of the three wins.  Central leads the league in total offense and tops the conference in scoring defense allowing just 12 points a game.

At halftime of the homecoming game, the newest class of the NWU Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted including former Nebraska Wesleyan football player Dusten Olds.  In addition, Nebraska Wesleyan president Dr. Fred Ohles is receiving the Spirit of the Plainsmen Award.

A live video webcast of the game is available courtesy of the NWU Sports Network and LNKTV Education Channel.  Jeff Motz will be on the play-by-play with Brett Edwards as the analyst.  In addition, Saturday's action can be heard locally on 1240 Am/103.3 FM KFOR radio with hall of fame broadcaster Dick Janda calling the action.  The audio stream is also available on kfornow.com.
