Prairie Wolves and Norse Set for Battle Saturday at Abel Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will return to Abel Stadium/Weary Field on Saturday (Oct. 20) to host Luther College in American Rivers Conference football action.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Norse is set for 1 pm.

Nebraska Wesleyan now has a 1-6 overall and 0-5 record in American Rivers play heading into Saturday's game.  The Prairie Wolves are looking to snap their current five-game losing streak after dropping a 44-20 game last Saturday at Loras College.

Luther has some momentum after they earned their first win of the year last Saturday versus Buena Vista.  The Norse scored 22 fourth quarter points to earn the comeback win.  They bring a 1-5 overall and 1-4 conference mark into Abel Stadium.

This is the first time that Luther has ever visited Abel Stadium.  In the previous two meetings between the Prairie Wolves and Norse as conference foes, both games were decided by three points.  Last season Luther defeated NWU 41-38 in overtime with NWU winning 27-24 in 2016.  Overall this is the fifth meeting between the two schools and the series is tied 2-2.

The Norse feature the top rushing team in American Rivers Conference play averaging 246.3 yards per game.  Quarterback Ian Kuykendall is the main weapon for Luther and is the reigning American Rivers Offensive Player of the Week.  He accounted for 429 yards of total offense last week and ranks second in the league in total offense.

Nebraska Wesleyan wants to get the offense back on track this week after being held under 300 yards last week.  They will face a Luther defense that ranks 8th in the conference in both total defense and scoring defense.

Saturday's game can be seen live on the NWU athletics website with the broadcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network as produced by LNKTV Sports.
