Things looked great for NWU early as they jumped out to the 17-0 lead.
The scoring got started in the 1
st quarter when
Bradley Pelkey caught a 5-yard TD pass from
Jonathan Curti. The score would remain 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
On the second play of the 2
nd quarter, NWU went ahead 10-0 as
Jackson Hinze connected on a 45-yard field goal, the longest made field goal in the IIAC this year. The Prairie Wolves extended the lead to 17-0 later in the second quarter when Curti found
Bryce Darner on a 20-yard TD pass on third down.
At that point of the game, Nebraska Wesleyan led by 17 points and had outgained Central 229-29. The Dutch quickly turned things around when they entered freshman quarterback Blaine Hawkins into the game. He scored on a 1-yard TD run on the next drive to put Central on the board.
Central would score 21 straight points in the 2
nd quarter to take a 21-17 halftime lead. They took the lead scoring on the last play of the half with starting QB Kohle Helle taking a 1-yard TD run.
The second half was more of the same as Central got a 38-yard TD run from Hawkins to go ahead 28-17. NWU answered and quickly drove into the Dutch red zone. The Prairie Wolves were unable to convert on two prime TD chances and had to settle for a Hinze field goal.
Central scored three straight TDs to put the game out of reach as they took advantage of a pair of NWU interceptions. NWU did get a late TD with
Shaka Taylor scoring on a 2-yard TD run.
Central finished with 616 total yards of offense, the majority coming in the final three quarters. They had 353 yards on the ground and 263 through the air.
NWU had 385 total yards in the game, 280 through the air and 105 on the ground. Curti was 22-38 for 280 yards with two TDs.
Arlie Myers caught six passes for 66 yards. Taylor went over 100 yards rushing for the third game this year with 102 yards on 25 carries.
Dakota Buss finished the game with 21 total tackles.
