Prairie Wolves Prepare for Road Test at Central

The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will hit the road this Saturday (Sept. 23) as they head to Pella, Iowa to face Central College in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and the Dutch is scheduled for 1 pm.

Both teams are looking for their first IIAC win of the season on Saturday.  NWU is 0-3 overall and 0-1 in IIAC play after their 10-point setback to Coe College in the conference opener last week.  Central is 1-2 overall and also 0-1 in conference play as they are coming off a thrilling 39-38 overtime setback at Buena Vista.

NWU is making their first trip to Pella, Iowa since 1986 and the Prairie Wolves will aim to defeat Central in football for the first time as the Dutch hold a 5-0 advantage in the series history.

The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 14-0 lead last week but were outscored 28-3 by Coe College as the reigning league champions rallied back to earn their 14th-straight regular season victory.   NWU struggled in the first half during their two non conference losses, so the big first quarter was a good change for the Prairie Wolves.  They look to put together a complete game this Saturday.

Central finished 6-2 in IIAC play one year ago and finished second in the league standings.  They have been led by new starting quarterback Kohle Helle who leads the team in rushing and passing.  The Dutch also feature one of the nation's top wide receivers, Sam Markham, who ranks second among all active NCAA III players in career receptions.

Fans not traveling to the game can hear the game locally on KFOR 1240 AM/103.3 FM or online at kfornow.com with Dick Janda calling the action.
