Game Week: NWU Hosts Concordia College in Football Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan will kick off their 2017 football season this Saturday (Sept. 2) when they host Concordia College (Minn.).  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and the Cobbers is set for 1:00 pm at Abel Stadium.

NWU is coming off a 2016 season where they finished 4-6 overall and 3-5 in their first season competing in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) to tie for fifth overall in the league standings.  The Prairie Wolves return seven starters on defense and five starters on offense from the 2016 squad.  NWU was picked to finish 6th in the 2017 IIAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.

Concordia College, a NCAA III institution located in Moorhead, Minn., was picked to finish third in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).  They finished 7-3 in 2016 and return eight starters on defense and five offensive starters.  The Cobbers have won at least seven games in five straight years playing in the highly competitive MIAC.

This will be the first ever meeting in football between Nebraska Wesleyan and Concordia.  It is just the fifth time a NWU football team has played football against a school from the state of Minnesota and the first since 1987 when they faced Gustavus Adolphus.

Once again this season, all 10 Nebraska Wesleyan football games can be heard on KFOR 1240 AM & KFOR 103.3 FM or online at kfornow.com with veteran play-by-play announcer Dick Janda returning for his ninth season as the voice of the Prairie Wolves.

All home games can be seen live via webcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network.  The games will then be aired tape delayed Saturday night at 7:00 pm and on Sundays at 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm on LNKTV Education channel.  They can be seen on Charter Spectrum Channel 1303, Windstream's Kinetic Channel 80 or Allo Channel 23.
