CLERMONT, Fla. – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team started their spring trip on a good note with a 7-1 win over University of Northwestern-Minnesota on Saturday morning. They dropped game two of the day, 9-0, to York College of Pennsylvania.
NWU scored one run in the bottom of the 1
st inning and the 1-0 score remained until the bottom of the 5
th inning. In the bottom of the 5
th, the Prairie Wolves broke the game open with six runs.
All six runs in the bottom of the 5
th were unearned as they took advantage of two errors and a passed ball. NWU did get four straight singles to keep the inning going as all four hits drove in runs.
Northwestern finally got on the board in the top of the 6
th inning with one run, but that was all they could muster against starting pitcher
Claire Poppe. Poppe allowed just four hits with five strikeouts to get the complete game victory.
Seven Prairie Wolves recorded hits in the game, as
Danelle Snyder was the only player with multiple hits going 2-2 on the day.
In the second game against York College, the Prairie Wolves were held to only four hits and committed four errors in the game that ended after five innings due to the run rule.
York scored three runs in the third inning, then added six in the bottom of the fourth.
NWU will play a total of 12 games during their spring break trip.
