SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University got a walk off win over Nebraska Wesleyan in game one of a softball doubleheader between old conference rivals on Thursday night (Mar. 23) in Seward, Neb. The Bulldogs won the first game 5-4, then took the nightcap 11-4 to complete the sweep.
The Prairie Wolves got a pinch-hit RBI double by senior
Nicole Belfiore in the top of the 7
th inning to drive in
Danelle Snyder with the tying run making the score 4-4. In the bottom of the 7
th, Concordia took advantage of three walks and a single to earn the win. With the bases loaded, the Bulldogs drew a walk to end the game at 5-4.
NWU jumped ahead 2-0 early scoring two runs in the 1
st inning. Two walks started the game then
Madi Francis drove in a run with a double.
Morgan Shipley came around to score on a wild pitch. Concordia came back to tie the game in the 3
rd inning scoring one run in the 2
nd and one in the 3
rd. They took the lead with a run in the 4
th inning.
Francis led off the 5
th with a single then came around to score on a ground out by Snyder making the score 3-3. Concordia quickly went back ahead with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished with seven hits, compared to 13 for the Bulldogs. Shipley and Francis both had two hits to lead the Prairie Wolves.
NWU also took an early lead in the second game with a pair of runs in the top of the 2
nd inning.
Maddy Ethen doubled and scored on a single by Snyder. She then came around to score on a passed ball. Concordia answered with two runs in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Jordan Arndt had an RBI single in the 3
rd inning to drive in
Madi Francis who reached by error. From there, it was all Concordia. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the 3
rd inning, three in the 5
th and two more in the 6h.
NWU finished with 10 hits, while Concordia had 13.
The Prairie Wolves are next in action at York College in one week.
