LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan closed out the 2017 regular season on a high note as the Prairie Wolves women shutout Buena Vista, 3-0, for women's soccer senior night on Tuesday (Oct. 31) at Abel Stadium.
The Prairie Wolves finish 2017 with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Iowa Conference play.
Nebraska Wesleyan put the pressure on the Beavers all night long, but just could not find the open net. Finally, as the clock was winding down before halftime,
Annie Platt got away on a breakaway and got past the goalie to kick the ball in the left side of the net.
That gave the Prairie Wolves a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
NWU picked up right away in the second half to add on to their lead.
Shannon Jerram scored her third goal of the year on an assist from
Raissa Souza giving the Prairie Wolves a 2-0 lead.
The Prairie Wolves capped off their successful night in the 80
th minute as
Raissa Souza scored. Souza added to her team leading goal total with her seventh goal of the season.
NWU outshot BVU 24-6 in the match with 15 shots on goal.
Jennica Johnson and
Makenzie Hammond combined for the shutout in goal. It was fitting for Hammond to close out the match on her senior night celebration putting on the Prairie Wolves uniform for a final time.
Natalie Graves and Hammond were both honored before the match as the two seniors on the Prairie Wolves roster.
