Men's Soccer Shuts Out BVU 4-0 on Senior Night

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team sealed home field advantage in the postseason as they shutout Buena Vista University, 4-0, on Senior Night Tuesday (Oct. 24) in the regular season finale.
 
With the victory, the Prairie Wolves finish 5-3 in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play that will give them the No. 4 seed in the postseason tournament that begins on Saturday.  NWU is now 10-6-1 overall and remained undefeated.
 
Junior Jake Kennedy continued his terrific scoring this season as he got the Prairie Wolves rolling early.  Kennedy scored his first goal in the 24th minute off a corner kick to get NWU on the board.
 
Kennedy's second goal of the first half came less than five minutes later on an assist from Alex Day.  It was the 11th goal of the year for Kennedy as he ranks third in the conference in goals scored this season.
 
NWU took the 2-0 lead into halftime but wanted to add more to leave no doubt about the convincing victory.
 
Senior Brady Blazek was able to get in the scoring in his final regular season match at Abel Stadium.  Blazek scored his third goal of the year off an assist from Cam Lawrence.  It was the 27th career goal for Blazek to rank 7th on the NWU all-time charts.
 
The scoring wasn't over as Cade Miller made his first goal of the year in the 63rd minute on an assist from Alejandro Olvera to complete the match.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the match with 19 shots, compared to just eight for Buena Vista who ends their year with a 5-12-1 overall record.  The NWU defense was able to complete the shutout, with Jack Nespor and Will Phillips combining in goal.
 
Prior to Tuesday night's match, six players were recognized for playing in their final regular season match at Abel Stadium.  Jack Naspor, Brendan Flynn, Luke Thaller, Chris Elbracht, Ryan Anderson and Brady Blazek all suited up in a NWU uniform for the last time in the regular season, but will be playing again at Abel Stadium.
 
NWU will host University of Dubuque on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the IIAC Postseason Tournament.
