Dubuque Shuts Out NWU 3-0 in Women's Soccer

DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque scored two first half goals then added another in the second half as the Spartans complete the shutout over Nebraska Wesleyan, 3-0, in Iowa Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night (Oct. 18) in Dubuque, Iowa at Oyen Field.

The Prairie Wolves have now dropped four straight matches to fall to 4-10-1 overall and 1-6 in IIAC action and are officially eliminated from postseason play.  Dubuque improves to 7-4-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference action to climb to fifth in the standings.

Dubuque got the scoring in the 29th minute of the first half when Olivia Sullivan scored on a header off a corner kick.  Around ten minutes later the Spartans struck again as Jaida Breese scored.  The 2-0 Dubuque advantage would remain the score at intermission.

In the second half, Dubuque added another goal onto their total with Lexus Rose scoring on a penalty.  It was the final goal of the match, but that was more than enough for the Spartans in the shutout victory.

Nebraska Wesleyan managed only five total shots in the match, with one shot on goal.  Meanwhile, Dubuque had 15 shot attempts with eight of those on goal.

The Prairie Wolves will have very little time before they are back in action again as NWU will step out of IIAC action to play Grinnell College on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 19) at Abel Stadium.  NWU will attempt to snap their four-match losing streak in a match that is set to start at 4 pm.
