Chargers Win Pair of 1-Run Games Over Prairie Wolves

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Briar Cliff pitchers limited Nebraska Wesleyan to just eight total hits in the doubleheader as the Chargers won a pair of one run games over the Prairie Wolves on Saturday afternoon in GPAC softball action.  BCU won the opener 1-0, then took game two 4-3.

NWU falls to 12-10 overall and falls below .500 in GPAC play at 4-5. 

The Chargers broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the 4th inning in the opening contest.  A lead-off single followed by a double and sacrifice fly scored the only run of the game.

Nebraska Wesleyan had their best chance to score in the top of the 7th inning.  Madi Francis led off the inning with a single.  She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, then advanced to third base on a ground out.  Nicole Vana drew a walk putting runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs.  A ground out to second base ended the game with the tying run stranded at third.

The Prairie Wolves had only three hits in game one, all three were singles. Marisa Garver took the loss for NWU allowing just one earned run with six hits in the complete game.

NWU fell behind 4-0 after three innings of the second game.  BCU scored one run in the second and three more in the third.

The Prairie Wolves got their first run in the top of the 4th inning.  Nicole Vana drove in a run to make the score 4-1.  NWU continued to chip away and got the offense going in the 6th.  Kassie Knauss and Rachel Kubik each hit doubles to lead off the inning.  Knauss scored on the double by Kubik, then Kubik scored on a passed ball.

Trailing by one run headed to the 7th once again, the Prairie Wolves got the tying run at third.  A fly out ended the game with the tyring run stranded as the Prairie Wolves lost both.

Five different Prairie Wolves had one hit in game two, with Kubik and Knauss getting doubles.  LeighAnn Novotny got the loss on the mound.
