MT. PLEASANT, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan picked up their second win in two nights on Tuesday as the Prairie Wolves defeated Iowa Wesleyan 64-51 in a NCAA III non-conference matchup in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
The win moves the Prairie Wolves to 6-4 on the season, which is already the most wins for a NWU women's basketball team since the 2010-11 season.
NWU used a 11-2 run in the 2
nd quarter to go ahead by 11 points after being tied at the end of the 1
st quarter. The Prairie Wolves led 29-23 at halftime then outscored the Tigers by seven points in the 3
rd quarter to hold a 49-36 advantage. They maintained the lead in the 4
th quarter for the impressive road win.
Iowa Wesleyan made only 1-16 from the floor in the 2
nd quarter and shot 4-29 from the field for the entire first half (13.8%). The finished the game shooting just 22.0 percent from the field.
Meanwhile, NWU continued their improvement shooting the basketball making 45.3 percent and 7-21 from long range.
Mikenzie Delgado came off the bench to lead the team with 12 points. Two other Prairie Wolves scored 11 points as
Morgan Nishida had 11 with five assists, while
Kate Schulte had 11 with three assists.
Nebraska Wesleyan is now off until after the new year when the return to Iowa Conference action at Simpson College on January 4.
