LINCOLN – The Nebraska Wesleyan football team closes out the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) when they host conference foe Loras College in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Duhawks is set for 1 pm at Abel Stadium.
Â
NWU brings a 3-6 overall, 2-5 IIAC record into the season finale, with Loras entering the final game at 1-8, 1-6 IIAC.
Â
The Prairie Wolves had a season-best 524 yards of total offense last Saturday, but came up just short in a 38-27 loss at Buena Vista University. It was the first time this season the NWU offense went over 500 yards, but 24 second half points by BVU were too much to overcome.
Â
Despite the 1-8 record, Loras has been very competitive this year. Four of the Duhawks eight losses have been by eight points or less. Last week, Loras had a decisive 60-22 loss to cross town rival University of Dubuque.
Â
A win on Saturday could put the Prairie Wolves as high as 5
th in the IIAC standings in their first year of competition in the 9-team Iowa Conference.
Â
Saturday will be the final game for 21 Nebraska Wesleyan seniors as they put on the Prairie Wolves uniform for one last time. All 21 players, including a student coach and manager, will be honored prior to kickoff of Saturday's game.
Â
Once again this week a live video broadcast is available courtesy of the NWU Sports Network, with replays of the game airing no local cable TV Saturday evening at 8 pm and twice on Sunday at 11 am and 7 pm. The broadcast can be seen on Windstream's Kinetic Channel 80 and Time Warner Channel 80 or 71.16.
