LINCOLN, Neb. – Goals came fast and furious for the Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team in their final match of the season as the Prairie Wolves rolled to a 13-1 victory over Lincoln Christian University on Friday afternoon (Oct. 28) at Abel Stadium.
The 13 goals scored tied the school record for goals in the match, equaling the 13 goals scored against Upper Iowa in 2000.
NWU scored nine goals in the first half, then added four more in the second half to tie the record. The Prairie Wolves finish the 2016 season with a 7-7-3 overall record. Lincoln Christian falls to 1-14-1 overall.
Eight different players were able to score goals for Nebraska Wesleyan during the match as everyone chipped in to contribute to the huge offensive explosion.
Four Nebraska Wesleyan player had two goals apiece.
Drew Miller,
Alex Day,
Jake Kennedy and
Brady Blazek each scored two goals on the day. Kennedy added two assists and Miller had one.
Other goals scored for NWU went to
Phil Volk,
Will Weber,
Nick Kreski and
Josh Thompson. One other goal was an own goal. Kreski scored his first career goal on senior day, while three other seniors also got into the scoring act. The fifth senior,
Max Jimerson, was able to record an assist in his final match.
Nebraska Wesleyan attempted an astounding 37 total shots on the afternoon, with 20 shots on goal. LCU had just three shots but did score in the second half as Joshua Garcia scored in the 56
th minute of the match.
The Prairie Wolves will say goodbye to five senior players who are graduating from the program.
